Car crash fraudsters arrested in Yorkshire

A group of men have been caught repairing and selling on expensive cars to unsuspecting customers after they had been written off by the insurance company. They have now been arrested for insurance fraud.

Unsuspecting customers bought more than 50 cars from a group of five men from Bradford who claimed that the vehicles had never sustained damage – hiding the fact that they had been in serious crashes and badly repaired.

“A large proportion of fraudulent activities involve motor vehicles and focus must remain on the issue to combat the problem,” said Jane Peters who is head of Operations at AGS Risk Solutions.

West Yorkshire Police said that the status of the cars which tells the tale of the vehicle’s history had been altered illegally. “It seems the customers had no way of knowing whether the car they just bought had ever been in an accident or if indeed it carried outstanding finance,” said Jane.

During the Bradford raid, police seized a number of cars including a Porsche and two Audis along with a substantial amount of cash.

The previous owners of all 52 cars involved in the scam have now been informed.
